Makati Philippines
Makati, comes from the tagalog word for tide, “kati”. Makati is one of the many cities that make up Metro Manila and is perhaps one of the most cosmopolitan as well.
The Spanish call this city San Pedro De Macati after its patron saint Pedro De Alfaro.
It is distinct from the City of Manila which is one of the other 16 cities that make up Metro Manila.
Like what Orchard Road is to Singapore, Makati Philippine is also one of the premier destinations for many visitors to the Philippines.
It is bordered by the Pasig River in the north and by the municipality of Pateros and Tuguig on the southeast.
With many of the country’s expatriates living and working in Makati Philippines, the city is a major entertainment and shopping hub for Metro Manila.
The city also boasts some of the tallest buildings that can be found in the Philippines like the PBCom Tower and the GMA Network Tower of Power.
Some of the leading hotels are also located in Makati. The Dusit Hotel Nikko is a 5 star 232 rooms luxury hotel that is located right in central Makati. The 448 guest rooms and 27 suites Shangri-La Makati Hotel is located on the corner of Ayala Avenue.
Getting Around Makati Philippines
Getting around Makati is relatively easy as there are four (4)
MRT Stations along Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA), the main ring road servicing Metro Manila. They comprises of Ayala, Buendia, Guadalupe and Magallanes stations. Ayala station is right in the center of Ayala Centre and stopping here will bring you to the main shopping center in Metro Manila.

The main hive of activity in Makati actually revolves around the Ayala center.
Here, you can find the major brands like CK, Lacoste, Yves St Laurent and many others.
The main malls are
Glorietta which is owned and operated by the Ayala company. Other main shopping malls and centers include
Greenbelt,
Power Plant Mall and the Salcedo Weekend Market.
With regards to accommodation, Makati has a spread of choices to accommodate all sorts of budget.
You can get budget accommodation like the Makati Apartelle where prices starts from around 1,000php per day.
Middle range accommodation like the Copacabana Businessman’s hotel starts from $60 per night.
Of course, being the central business district of Manila, the majority of the high class hotels are located here in Makati as well. The Mandarin Oriental Manila can be found at the corner of Paseo De Roxas along Makati Avenue.
In fact, most of the international 5 stars hotels are situated along Makati Avenue.
